JOB DESCRIPTION

Red Cedar is adding another user experience designer to our team! Like all of our decisions to hire, we see this as an important event – the decision to hire you is an investment in building our culture, our products and our customers. So, don’t be surprised that we really indulge in this moment! We can’t wait to hear from you.

Red Cedar is known for crafting applications that are elegant combinations of workflow, data, innovative visualization and analytics. Besides being part of the team that brings these elements together, your job is to make the role your own, make your peers’ lives better, strengthen Red Cedar’s practices, bring innovation to our products and delight our customers. As long as you make your best effort, and you love to learn, we will do everything we can to support you creatively and help you do the best work of your life.

User Experience Designers at Red Cedar work on different projects. You may be working closely with members of the Design Team to plan, design, explore, iterate, and evaluate user experience and user interface solutions for our online education monitoring application. You might participate in user research, including ethnographic research, surveys, and usability studies. You could be working on a web-based solution or you could be working on one of our new mobile apps. Projects at Red Cedar always start with design, but you’ll constantly work hand in glove with our software developers. In fact, our most creative projects require iterative, design + develop cycles where you will share in the identification of design challenges and solutions. Challenge us! Push us! Be original!

There are three “must haves” to be successful at Red Cedar: talent, great communication skills and exceptional problem solving. With those three characteristics, successful design ideation, wireframe and prototype creation, user research data analysis and communication will be on the docket. Experience with applications for the iOS or Android is a plus as mobile is becoming more important to us, though it is not a requirement.

We are not looking for someone who’s already expert in everything they do. We’re looking for someone great who demonstrates the interest, drive and desire to keep learning new things and continually get better.

At Red Cedar, you’ll be working with great people. Friendly, talented, original people. People who work here have a wide variety of interests (though running, biking and the outdoors hold a special place) and interesting life experiences. You’ll have a chance to learn from some of the best people you’ve ever met. And we’ll get to learn from you.

Working as a User Experience Designer at Red Cedar is a unique opportunity. We have a small team, so you won’t be a minion. You’ll be one of a few and your impact will be felt within the company and without. You will help drive us in new directions. You’ll help us see things we haven’t seen before, consider things we’ve never considered before, and bring fresh perspective to our team. Brighten us up and put a big smile on our customers’ faces.

While Red Cedar embraces remote team members, this position requires frequent ftf interaction with our clients. As such, your desk will be located in our Okemos, Michigan office.
